Cary Rapaport is a sculptor working with ceramics, flameworked glass, and illuminated plasma. Her work evokes curiosity through unexpected botanical forms, glass vessels glowing with electrified noble gases, and dreamlike aquatic landscapes of porcelain and resin. Inspired by the mysterious Voynich Manuscript, an unreadable medieval codex filled with bizarre imagery, she synthesizes art, science and a fascination with history.
Cary’s artwork has been exhibited widely for over ten years in the U.S. including shows at the Sandwich Glass Museum (MA) and Florida CraftArt (FL). She was awarded the Opportunity Fund Grant from the Boston Cultural Council in 2018 and a solo exhibition as winner of the SOLO2020 competition at Bromfield Gallery (Boston). Since relocating to Belgium in 2023, her work has been featured in KLEI Keramiek Magazine (Netherlands) and in the Piet Staut 2024 Klein Sculptuur exhibition in Flanders.
She holds a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston (2010) and has further studied numerous ceramic and glass techniques, including porcelain and nerikomi ceramics, glass flameworking, casting, and scientific glassblowing. While employed at Strattman Design in Boston, Cary worked closely with glass artist and inventor Wayne Strattman, whose expertise in illuminated plasma technology sparked her ongoing exploration of this art form. Cary currently leads an international group, the Plasma Art Alliance, and believes deeply in fostering artistic community.
